Associate Artist – Sound Artist

February 18, 2016 in All Opportunities, Composers, electroacoustic by mwhiteside

APA is seeking a sound artist to work as an Associate on the redevelopment of Aberdeen’s Music Hall, as it undergoes a £7 million transformation to ensure that it will continue to inspire audiences, artists and communities for many more years.

During closure we are Stepping Out around the city, presenting concerts and producing an associate artist programme focusing on community engagement and creating new work inspired by the hall and its stories.

APA is seeking a sound artist to capture the transition of the venue and the people and places associated with its past, present and future through the creation of soundscapes. Outcomes include a body of work reflecting the building’s transformation and the stories attached. Ideas and input into the full artistic range of possibilities will be welcome.

This programme is a partnership between APA and the Youth Arts Collective North East (YACNE). The artist will work with APA’s creative learning team and YACNE to deliver the project and this will include:-
• Mentoring a young emerging musician from the North-east.
• Delivering workshops for key YACNE target groups including Looked After Children, and children with English as an additional language.
• Contributing to the development of interpretive and learning materials and resources.
• Leading an inter-generational project to create one of the required soundscapes.

The Associate Artist will be managed by APA’s Artistic Producer and will work with APA’s creative learning manager.

20 months starting in March 2016 with a creative contribution to the closing weekend in April continuing at key points throughout the redevelopment until the building re-opens.

The fee is £5,000. Reasonable travel and accommodation expenses may be paid. There is budget available towards the costs of creating work as appropriate.
