Call for Blog Titles and Work Inspirations

March 14, 2015 in All Opportunities by newmusicscotland

Amble is about to undertake an epic train journey traveling 5000 miles from Benbecula (Hebrides Scotland) to Beijing (China). This project will be an artists residency on the move – Tracks and Sleepers – with a twist; she wants your input.

During the duration of her journey Amble will be offline and she is interested in using this confined and un-networked time to develop new work and reflect on her experience as an artist with M.E. She is looking for external prompts to assist her during this process and is particularly keen to hear from other individuals or organisations who may also be reflecting on arts and disability, arts infrastructure and the nature of the cultural legacies we operate within.

This is an interactive residency, with a difference, Amble will not be online for her entire 4 week journey. All the interactivity will be handed to her in person, on paper.

Amble is collecting a stash of sealed envelopes, inside will be creative tasks, inspirations, poems, questions, instructions or musical phrases submitted by you.

There are 2 ways to get involved:

1) Send a title or question to prompt a blog

Questions or blog titles can reflect on any aspect of arts practice, the experience of having ME, the wider cultural sector, intercultural observations, or anything. Have you always wanted ask something but never dared? Something you want mulled over, discussed, thought through or ranted about? Want a perspective from Russia, Mongolia, Berlin or Beijing? Now’s your chance. You can ask anything you want. Amble will reflect and respond to you, sending back her blogs whenever she can find internet signal.

2) Send an ‘inspiration’ to make a sound work

Inspirations can be a specific task (such as make a 2 minute soundscape from sounds you find in the next 24 hours) or a more generic inspiration (such as a poem or musical phrase) or an instruction (such as use a method of making music that you have never tried before).

The only rule is, because Amble will be choosing suggestions at random while en route, they must be geographically generic to whichever location she might be in: Benbecula; London; Paris; Berlin; Warsaw; Moscow; Siberia; Mongolia; China.

If you would like to be the prompt for one of Amble’s blog entries or compositions please email your ideas to callum@flip.org.uk, where they will be organised and placed in a selection of blank envelopes for Amble to open at random while on her trip. When she finds a wifi signal, she’ll fire them back to Flip Artists for your consideration.

Deadline for submissions is 6th April 2015.

Amble’s blogs and pieces will be available on Tumblr tracksandsleepers.tumblr.com

We’re keen to hear from individuals but also organisations, magazines, blogs and websites. Come get involved!
