Call for Scores – Maryland Wind Festival

The Maryland Wind Festival announces a call for scores with the winning composition to be performed during our second season, June 27- July 1 2016. The Maryland Wind Festival is a new chamber music project based in Frederick, Maryland. The festival seeks to bring professional quality wind music to Western Maryland and the surrounding region, through live performances and educational outreach. Frederick serves as an ideal location with a variety of venues within the convenience of a growing, vibrant city.

For the 2016 festival, we are seeking compositions by young and emerging composers for performance by the Maryland Chamber Winds. Both newly composed and previously existing pieces will be considered. Works must be for 3 -10 players of the instrumentation listed below, and no longer than 15 minutes in duration. The winning composer will be offered two public performances of your piece and recordings from the performances. Guidelines for submission:
– Composers of any age and any nationality
– Works for 3 – 10 players
– Works may be newly composed or previously existing
– Submissions no longer than 15 minutes in duration
– Limit 2 submissions per composer
– Works requiring a conductor will be considered
– Works involving electronics will not be considered this year

2 clarinets (bass clarinet)
2 bassoons
2 french horns
2 saxophones (soprano/alto/tenor)

There is no submission fee.

Deadline: April 1, 2016
Performances: June 27 – July 1, 2016
