Composition competition 2016 – 4th edition

Orchestre national d’Île-de-France launches the fourth composition competition Île de créations in partnership with Radio France – France Musique, Musique Nouvelle en Liberté, Durand-Salabert-Eschig (Universal Music Publishing Group) and SACEM (Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Éditeurs de Musique).
Bruno Letort, Director of Ars Musica Brussels contemporary music festival will be the patron of the
2016 competition.

Applicants profile
The competition is opened to composers under 32 years old on January 1st, 2016, from any country and enrolled in composition and/or orchestration training program in the European Union within the five last years.

Applicants must write two movements, two minutes each, of a five movements Heroic Fantasy for orchestra. Applications will be closed on September 1st 2015. The selected candidates will compose the three others movements of this Fantasyin five movements before December 1st 2015. The public Finale round will take place on February 18th 2016 in the Orchestra’s House (Alfortville, Paris district).

The Orchestra cannot exceed the following instrumentation:
Woodwinds: 2 flutes (including piccolo).2 oboes (including English horn).2 clarinets.2 bassoons (including contrabassoon)
Brasswinds: 2 horns.
Percussions: 4 players (1 timpanist and 3 percussionists:1 bass drum, cymbals, triangle, 1 snare drum, 1 tam-tam, 1 xylophone, 1 keyboard-glockenspiel)
Harp: 1 player

Jury will be led by Enrique Mazzola, the Music Director of Orchestre national d’Île-de-France and the competition’s patron Bruno Letortand constituted by composers, members of the Orchestra partners.
