Concert Etudes for Piccolo Composition Competition

Call for Scores
Flutist Patricia Surman is seeking scores by composers to be included in a new collection of concert etudes for piccolo and to be performed in recital. The works must be scored for piccolo alone. Both previously performed and unperformed works will be considered. Compositions should be one to two pages in length and have the underlying idea of developing a particular skill. This call for scores seeks to develop a diverse range of etudes, winning compositions may range stylistically from lyrical, neoclassical in nature to avant garde. Additionally, the scores may contain extended techniques but such writing is not required.

Compositions will be evaluated and selected using the following criteria:
Does the composition serve to develop the musical skill selected by the composer? Is the skill self-evident within the music?
Overall musical quality of the composition, these works should be valuable for study and for performance in a concert setting
Does the composition meet the required guidelines for length and instrumentation?

First Place $500
Second Place $250
Third Place $100
Honorable Mention

Submission Guidelines
Submissions should include pdf scores with composer’s name removed and a 500-word biography suitable for printing. If available, composers may submit recordings.
