DAR International Residency 2016

February 16, 2016 in All Opportunities, Composers by mwhiteside

Sound and Music, in partnership with The Lithuanian Composers’ Union and AIR KREMS in 2016, are offering a unique commission and residency opportunity for two UK composers.

The selected composers will each develop a new work for The Representative Wind Orchestra of the Lithuanian Ministry of the Interior and will participate in an international residency programme in Druskininkai, Lithuania in the summer of 2016.

The new work created by each composer will be premiered in Lithuania in 25 or 26 August 2016 following a two week residency period.

As well as providing performance and composition opportunities, this programme will enhance the international networks of the participants and raise the profile of the selected composers on the international circuit.

Each selected UK composer will receive travel expenses, a €300 bursary for their two weeks stay in Druskininkai and a £2000 commission fee. Accommodation in Lithuania will be provided as part of this residency opportunity.

Sound and Music’s Director of Programmes, Richard Whitelaw explained:

“This is a great international commissioning opportunity and a rare chance to write for a large brass ensemble. The DAR residency has a great reputation for composer hosting, and the accommodation, fitted out with pianos in each house and with easy access to the tranquillity of the Lithuanian forest, provides a wonderful space for creativity and reflection.”
