Emmanuel Music Handel Overture Composition Competition

Applications are being accepted for the Emmanuel Music Handel Overture Composition Competition. The winning composition, an overture, will receive its Boston premiere on October 1 and 2, 2016, in Emmanuel Music concerts featuring Handel: Apollo e Dafne under the direction of Artistic Director Ryan Turner. In addition, the winning composer will receive a $500 cash prize. Submissions will be reviewed by Ryan Turner, and Pulitzer Prize winning composer and Emmanuel Music Principal Guest Conductor, John Harbison.

The following parameters and restrictions must be followed:

ELIGIBILITY: Scores will be accepted from emerging composers under the age of 30.
DURATION: 3-4 minutes

INSTRUMENTATION: NO MORE THAN: 1 flute, 2 oboes, 1 bassoon, 2 horns, strings (4.4.3.2.1), harpsichord, lute

NO LESS THAN: 2 oboes, 1 bassoon, strings (4.4.3.2.1)

STYLE/IDIOM: Any, but excluding the use of electronics or voices Composition should be informed by Handel Apollo e Dafne.

RESTRICTIONS: Submitted works must be unpublished, must never have been performed in public or have received any award, whether under their current title or any other, and must not have been previously commissioned.

DEADLINE: All materials must be submitted electronically by May 15, 2016. No Entry Fee
Winner will be announced by August 1, 2016.
