Ensemble Platypus Call for Scores

January 28, 2015 in All Opportunities, Composers by newmusicscotland

Ensemble Platypus is a young but highly specialised ensemble for contemporary music. Based in Vienna, Austria, we have already performed in Japan, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Switzerland, Italy (…) and at important festivals such as Wien modern, Klangspuren Schwaz, the Forum Wallis and venues such as the Wiener Konzerthaus, among others. One aspect of our profile is the emphasis on young composers’ works (in the few years of the ensembles existence, we have world-premiered about some 200 pieces) and our efforts to collaborate with composers in a so to speak sustainable, long-term way. The ensemble was founded by both composers and performers and is until today run collaboratively, many of the ensemble’s players are also composers.

We have often before worked with calls for scores, and this time we are looking for works meeting the following criteria:

– only trios for Fl. Vl. and Pno.
– no subsets
– maximum 5-7 minutes
– shorter pieces ok
– feasible without a conductor
– electronics possible

We will select up to four works to be performed multiple times in the 2015/2016 concert seasons, starting with a concert on May 9th, 2015 in Vienna. We are aiming to create a concert programme to present at festivals and various occasions like that. Selected pieces will be recorded.

Please do send the (legible) Score and Parts to platypus.or.at@gmail.com until February 15th, 2015 .

Submissions arriving after this date will not be considered for this project but kept “in evidence” for further considerations. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at the same E-mail adress. Looking forward to your works,
