Event Details

This event finished on 20 August 2016

Countermeasure is performing several compositions by its Artistic Director, Aaron Jensen, including:

Fox in the Field: a heartfelt choral ballad, drawing from text of the classic book The Little Prince, captivates with fascinating vocal landscapes – the voices rise and fall like the shifting sands of wind-blown dunes in the desert.

Train the A Take: a concept piece by Jensen, playfully adapted from the jazz standard “Take the A-Train”,  plays out as if a recording of the song was dissected into hundreds of tiny pieces, then sampled and re-combined to create a soundscape replicating the sounds of a steam train. The piece is reminiscent of Phillip Glass’ works, with simple, driving, clean-line repetition. Everybody’s got a train song, but no one has one like this! At various points, the aspirant chugging train noises take on a quality of Inuit throat singing.  Here is a video of that song, done as an accompaniment to a train movie –

Aubade:  complex new choral music soundscape

London Bells: otherworldly experimentation – the melody of which recalls Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose,” but includes stellar and propulsive beatboxing  replace by vocal percussionist J-M Erlendson.  Here is a video of that song in performance

Countermeasure will be at The Space for the first two weeks of the Fringe. You can see the listings here
