Event Details

Hebrides Ensemble and CoMA, Contemporary Music for All, invite you to come and play in a concert of new music, in a national celebration of contemporary music-making.

Directed by William Conway, Hebrides Ensemble’s Artistic Director, you will be part of a UK-wide celebration of new music commissioned especially for amateur musicians by Contemporary Music for All. During the weekend, participants will work alongside members of Hebrides Ensemble, Scotland’s leading chamber music ensemble, to prepare a programme of contemporary music for public performance on the evening of Sunday 6th March 2016.

You will have the opportunity to explore new repertoire that’s accessible, challenging and fun to play. A selection of scores written for flexible ensemble will provide us with our concert programme. Parts will be available to download in February 2016 and you would be asked to prepare each part in advance of the weekend.

Some of the works may involve singing or playing simple hand-held percussion instruments, and you will be asked to indicate whether you would be willing to sing or play percussion in addition to playing your own instrument.

Dates: Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th March 2016
Times: Sat 5th: 10:00am-1:00pm, 2:00pm-5:00pm.
Sun 6th: 12.00noon-4:00pm with a short break. Concert at 6:30pm

Applications are welcome from musicians over 16 years of age, with a minimum playing standard around Grade 5. Download an application form:

Applications close at midnight on Friday 5th February 2016.

All orchestral instruments, piano, percussion and voices are welcome. We cannot include electronic instruments. Allocation of places will be determined by the aim of creating a balanced ensemble.

There will be a charge of £10 for participants and tickets for the final concert will go on sale in February.
