Event Details

Soloists Shuna Scott Sendall (Soprano) and Marcus Farnsworth (Baritone) join the Royal Scottish National Orchestra under conductor Rory MacDonald for the Scottish premiere of Equal Voices, a new piece by Sally Beamish based on the poetry of Sir Andrew Motion. Equal Voices takes as its starting point Motion’s poem An Equal Voice, which draws on the tragedy of shell shock and war-induced post-traumatic stress, from the Somme to Afghanistan. Interwoven with the Motion poem are settings of passages from the ‘Song of Songs’ from the Old Testament – emphasising the universal human longing for love and connection.

Equal Voices was co-commissioned by the RSNO and LSO, and will be performed as part of RSNO’s Elgar’s Enigma concert series in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
