MacMillan Piano Trio No.2

Beethoven Piano Trio in B-flat, Op.97, ‘Archduke’

“… their enthusiasm is infectious” Gramophone

A new work by Scotland’s foremost composer, James MacMillan, is always a much-anticipated event. In 1997, he wrote a masterpiece for piano trio (14 Little Pictures) and this is his first venture into the genre since, co-commissioned by Glasgow Music. The Gould Trio pair it with Beethoven’s wondrous ‘Archduke’ Trio, the premiere of which was one of the last times Beethoven himself played in public.
