John McLeod premiere of ‘White Bird Rising’ (after a painting by David McClure) for voices and instruments (with a text by the composer) and played by Inchcolm New Music Ensemble conducted by Steve King.

This new McLeod work is part of a series of commissions to various composers by Heriot-Watt University asking them to set to music one of the paintings in the University’s collection. McLeod has chosen this  colourful and mysterious painting by David McClure and, in the composer’s own text, he tries to solve some of the puzzles and questions set up by this amazing image. What is making the white bird rise out of the sunflowers? What is the significance of the crimson landscape and the snail-like tea pot.? Find out how McLeod tries to solve these mysterious visions in this fascinating new work!
