Journey to Begin will contemplate global human connectedness through travel and dissect the motives and realities of people who must leave their home. This concert will feature many new works, including the world premiere of two WPCS-commissioned pieces “Through the Wildernesses of Worlds” written by Ed Frazier Davis and “The Baths of the Western Stars” By Tabes Bridges. Also featured are works by Jake Runestad, Ysaye M. Barnwell, Sydney Guillaume, Caroline Shaw, and Dale Trumbore. Our two Call for Scores winners “Where Are My Unumbered Days?” by Scotland-based composer Chris Hutchings (Chicago premiere) and “As on Wings” by Canadian composer Leonard Enns will also be featured on the program.  Many of the works are inspired by relevant current events, including the Syrian refugee crisis, 9/11, racism in America, Somalian refugees living in Minnesota, and other tales of misplacement, travel, journey, and hope.
