Event Details

The Maxwell Quartet, founded in 2010 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland by four young Scottish string players, has rapidly established itself as an exciting new force in chamber music. They demonstrate their commitment to contemporary Scottish music with two works by Borders-based Ronald Stevenson, the lyrical String Quartet and a short piece commemorating Shostakovich, a composer much admired by Stevenson. The concert opens with Shostakovich’s own first quartet and ends with Schubert’s final one, one of the greatest in the entire repertoire.
