St Magnus International Festival is Orkney’s midsummer celebration of the arts. Founded in 1977 by a group including the late Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, the Festival has grown from small beginnings into one of Britain’s most highly regarded and adventurous arts events.

Live Music Now Scotland is delighted to be bringing two groups to the festival, for a series of performances. The first is a Friday evening concert by wind trio Sirocco Winds.

This young ensemble will present an eclectic selection of music for flute, clarinet and bassoon ranging from Beethoven’s variations on a theme from Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni to contemporary arrangements of folk tunes by the Irish harper O’Carolan and a rarity by Francis Baines, a 20th century British composer who famously contributed to Hoffnung’s concerts.
They will also be performing a new composition commissioned through Live Music Now Scotland by the Kimie Trust. The piece is Cardboard Creations by Aran Browning, a fantastic and imaginative work. You can take a listen to their recording at the following link:
