Inchcolm New Music Ensemble

The new music group of

Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.

The ‘Inchcolm New Music Ensemble’ is a music group working to create new music-making opportunities for performers and composers of all abilities and backgrounds.

The ‘Inchcolm New Music Ensemble’ provides opportunities for playing, composing and improvising at the knife-edge of contemporary music making.

Dear Musicians,

MUSIC COURSE: June 25th – July 2nd 2016 at the Ardtornish Estate, Scottish West Coast.

Travel to Ardtornish on Saturday June 25th and return on Saturday July 2nd. Rehearse through the week and give concerts in the famous Iona Abbey and St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh. The repertoire will be new music, including the winners of this year’s Heriot-Watt composer competition together with original Scottish compositions.

The Ardtornish Estate is a paradise in the rolling hills of Morvern, located in the West Highlands of Scotland.  We will stay in the splendour of a huge Victorian Country Mansion with views down Loch Aline to Mull, offering peace, quiet, and relaxation. The perfect place to unwind and make music! The ferry at Lochaline takes 15 minutes to cross the Sound of Mull, giving access to Mull, Tobermory, Balamory and the island of Iona and its famous Abbey beyond.

Heriot-Watt have an on-going special project where we commission new music in Scotland that has a starting point/inspiration from the HWU collection of art works.

The INME is seen as the flagship of music making at Heriot-Watt, reflecting the cutting edge of science and technology for which Heriot–Watt is celebrated. The group has given concerts in the St. Magnus Festival in the Orkney Islands; Inverie in Knoydart; St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh; the Isle of Skye; Ardtornish House; Iona Abbey off the west coast of Mull; Dunkeld Cathedral; Biggar; and Peebles. The INME toured the Czech Republic in June 2008 giving concerts in Prague, Brno and Kromeriz.

To date, the Inchcolm New Music Ensemble has premiered over 50 new works over 16 years, many being repeated at various times.

The course is open to choral singers and any acoustic orchestral instrumentalist.

The cost will be £400. This doesn’t cover food.

Students of Heriot-Watt University may qualify for a scholarship that allows them to attend the course free of charge.

To confirm your place on the course, please send a cheque for £50 as a deposit. Cheques payable: Heriot-Watt University.
