Listening to Ladies and Vent Nouveau are excited to announce a call for scores.

January 3, 2017 in All Opportunities, Composers by mwhiteside

** UPDATE: We are now accepting previously performed works in addition to those that have not yet been performed. **

Composers who identify as women and are of any age or nationality are invited to submit scores for a concert during Women’s History Month (March ‘17; venue TBA).

The pieces will be performed by an all-woman ensemble of musicians drawn from the Vent Nouveau collective, and will be included on a program alongside other contemporary works by women.

Pieces should be no longer than 10 minutes long, with no minimum length. There is no fee to submit. You may submit up to two works. They may include all, or a subset, of the following instrumentation:
2 Flutes
2 Oboes
2 Clarinets
1 Bassoon
1 Saxophone (Alto or Soprano preferred)
1 Horn
1 Trombone
1 Piano
1 Soprano

Email the following to by midnight EST, Sunday January 15th, 2017:
1) PDF score(s) of the piece(s) (maximum is 2 pieces). Program notes are not required, but if they are included with the score, please remove all personal/identifying information that may appear in them.
2) MP3 sound files for each piece submitted (MIDI is fine).
3) A separate PDF containing: the title(s) of the piece(s), the name of the composer, and contact information for the composer – email, phone number, and website address if available. You may also include a brief bio (no more than 150 words) on this document (optional).

Again, remember to ensure that no identifying information is on the score or in the filenames.

The number of compositions selected for inclusion is dependent on the pool of works received.
The compositions will be selected by the Vent Nouveau performers with administrative help from Listening to Ladies staff. Selected composers will be notified by email by Friday January 27th, 2017. Selected composers must be prepared to supply parts and other performance materials for their compositions by Friday February 10th, 2017 in order to allow the performers enough time to rehearse them. Recordings of the concert will be made available to the composers for their use.
