Naviar Records: State of Origin

October 20, 2014 in All Opportunities, Composers by newmusicscotland

Naviar Records: State of Origin is a new project involves writing music to accompany an art exhibition: the exhibition will run between the 13th of November and the 9th of December. As always participation is open to all.

“State of Origin brings together works of 11 artists of different roots and backgrounds. Focusing on individual experience of wayfaring, it introduces fragments of the stories of those who left their primary origin and find themselves at some stage of rediscovering sense of existence in the new reality. Authors derive inspirations from everyday experience of a contemporary nomad / migrant. Exhibition will include photography, paintings, drawings and graphics.”

The Assignment: please record a piece of audio using sounds from your surroundings. The idea of the exhibition is to represent how the local environment can affect the artistic process: composers are to record the sound of their own environment and develop an original piece.

Upload the track to the Naviar Laboratory group on SoundCloud

Please include the term (State of Origin – Name of the place where you recorded the sound) in the title of the track

Tracks submitted to this project will be considered for inclusion in the audio installation: furthermore, a compilation will be available as a free download and also as a limited edition CD.
