New Music Stage Call

December 10, 2014 in All Opportunities, Composers by newmusicscotland

Have your music performed at MFY’s New Music Stage at the National
Festival, a
national showcase of young talent working
across genres.

Submit a new piece – receive professional feedback.

The programme will be open to sign up to in January 2015.

Sound and Music, in partnership with Music for Youth, are embarking on a two year programme to support more performances and commissions of new music written by young composers. The programme will bring together performing groups, music education providers and composers in live events, supporting artistic collaborations.

The Event

The day long New Music Stage at Music for Youth’s National Festival in July 2015 will present selected performances of new music by young composers, performed by young people.

Who and what are we looking for?

Young composers, or music organisations representing young composers, will be considered in the following age categories:

  • 12 – 16 years old
  • 17 – 18 years old
  • 19 – 21 years old

They will need to submit a new piece from any genre of music.

The piece should be performed by young musicians also aged 21 years old and under.

What we will need?

  • A score – this can either be fully noted, chord
sequences or written instructions as suits the medium of the piece.
  • A recording of the proposed performing group – ideally a recording of them playing the composition itself, but if not a recording of
the group playing something already in their repertoire.

The deadline for submitting completed applications is Friday 27th March 2015.

The New Music Stage is supported by investment from the National Lottery through Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts programme.
