OPUS2015 – CALLING ALL UNPUBLISHED COMPOSERS
A chance to be professionally commissioned by Britten Sinfonia and Wigmore Hall and have your work played on BBC Radio 3.

After submitting two existing pieces for 3-10 instruments, twelve applicants chosen anonymously will be invited to write new pieces for a chamber group to be workshopped by Britten Sinfonia musicians in January 2015, with guidance and feedback from composer Huw Watkins and the players.  The shortlist will also receive an opportunity to spend a day working closely with one of the musicians to focus in depth on their instrument.

One composer will then be awarded a professional commission (including a fee) to write a new work to be performed at least three times in our award-winning At Lunch series in Wigmore Hall, Cambridge and Norwich, incorporating a BBC Radio 3 broadcast recording.

Britten Sinfonia has a long-standing commitment to commissioning new works, and the winner will be joining a list which includes both UK giants such as Peter Maxwell Davies, Judith Weir and James MacMillan and outstanding younger composing talent including Luke Bedford, Charlie Piper and Helen Grime.  Building on the success of last year’s competition, won by Patrick John Jones, with OPUS2015 the orchestra is hoping to bring a new name to the table.

OPUS2015 is open to composers of all ages who are resident in the UK from now until at least the time of the premiere in December 2015 and who are not represented by a publisher.
