RANDOM ACCESS MUSIC – 2016 Call for Scores (Anonymous submission)

January 9, 2016 in All Opportunities, Composers by mwhiteside

Random Access Music is pleased to announce its 8th annual call for scores. This year, the members of RAM seek vocal compositions written for 1-4 voices with solo instrument or chamber group, regardless of style. The winning composition will be performed on “Sojourns in Song,” a program featuring music for voices, guitar, strings, and winds by the RAM Players at the 5th annual Queens New Music Festival at the Secret Theatre in Long Island City, New York on Friday, May 20, 2016 and repeated again on RAM’s final concert of the season on Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Tenri Cultural Institute in Manhattan.
Please submit an unpublished and previously un-awarded work, 6-12 minutes in length, scored for 1-4 voices and instrumental forces; voices available: soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, baritone; instruments available: guitar, violin, cello, clarinet, flute, piano. Submit a work for any combination of the available voices and/or instruments; any works that require instrumental or vocal forces outside of what is available will be disqualified. No substitutions in instrumentation will be accepted. This program seeks to showcase 21st century explorations in vocal composition and thus the works can be song cycles, folk settings, madrigals, motets, troubadour style songs, an excerpt from an opera, through-composed, regular or modified pierrot ensemble work, or any other type of composition involving voices and instruments. Works requiring electronics are eligible, provided any technology required (beyond simple playback) be supplied and operated by the composer or the composer’s representative. There is no age or geographic requirement for the submitting composer. Self-published works are eligible, though works that have been published by a third party company will not be accepted. Works that have previously been awarded a prize or placement in any contest will not be accepted. Works must be composed within the last 12 years.
Submission materials:
• 1 physical score (no recordings)
• Composer’s name, address, phone number, and email address (on a separate sheet)
The score must be submitted ANONYMOUSLY. Only the title of the piece, a pseudonym, and instrumentation may appear on the score. Due to our insistence on anonymity, we will NOT accept online or digital submissions. Please provide a hard copy of your score. So that your submission remains anonymous in the judging process, please write the title of the work and a pseudonym or other marker on the score itself. Then, attach a sealed envelope containing your full name, address, phone number, and email address with your score. On the outside of the envelope, write the composer’s pseudonym and title of the work. If you would like your score returned, enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. All submissions must be received on or by Monday, February 15, 2016. Results will be announced in early March 2016.
