Deadline: June 1, 2015 at 11:59 p.m.
No entrance fee

1. The competition is open to participants from all countries without restrictions or age limitation.
2. The winner will receive a commission to write a new piece for string orchestra to be premiered by the Shawnee Mission East High School Orchestra in March 2016. Duration of expected commission is between 4-7 minutes.
3. Submit 2-3 representative samples of your work; 2 must be for either string quartet, string orchestra or symphony.
4. Submit a short written proposal of the commissioned work you would compose (250 words maximum)
5. Sample scores in PDF and links to sound files for each sample submitted to http://www.smeorchestraboosters.com. At this website participants can hear performance examples of the school orchestra for which you are composing.
6. Please include a brief biography of yourself (250 words maximum).
7. Prizes: $500 to selected composer based on samples; $1500 additional upon completion and submission of the commissioned composition.
8. Timeline: Samples are due by June 1, 2015 at 11:59 p.m.
Winner will be notified via e-mail and announced on website on August 1, 2015
Completed composition and parts delivered by: January 10, 2016
Premiere Performance: March 2016.
9. The composer agrees to include the following on the score and program notes: “Commissioned by the Shawnee Mission East High School Orchestra “ The winning composer must be able to work with the ensemble in person or via Skype twice prior to the premiere performance. No travel stipend is available for composers to attend rehearsals or the premiere performance.
