Simon Thacker About

Edinburgh born Simon Thacker is a classical guitar soloist, composer and leader of pioneering intercultural ensembles.

Simon is the leader of and composer for:

– Simon Thacker’s Ritmata, also featuring three of Europe’s leading jazz/world musicians, with whom he performed in 2014 as part of the prestigious Made in Scotland showcase. They will be touring New Zealand and recording a new album later this year.

– Simon Thacker’s Svara-Kanti, acclaimed across the world for redefining the limits of Indo-Western intercultural collaboration. Their debut album Rakshasa was acclaimed in over fifty reviews around the world. They made their debut in India in 2014 to standing ovations.

In January 2015 Simon toured a programme of his music with tabla master Sarvar Sabri in Pakistan, including TV appearances on Aaj, ARY and PTV.

Simon will perform at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe, again as part of Made in Scotland, with a new trio lineup of Svara-Kanti, with Raju das Baul, exponent of the mystical Bengali Baul tradition.

Simon performs in duo with Polish cellist Justyna Jablonska, exploring inspirations from around the world in his own compositions. They are currently recording their debut album.

Simon is classical guitar tutor at Edinburgh Napier University and Edinburgh College.
