Are you passionate about music and teaching?

Do you love to inspire and support children and their families?

Do you have extensive experience of group teaching and orchestral playing?

Following the successful launch of our third Big Noise centre in Torry Aberdeen last year, this is an exciting opportunity to join the programme as a Musician/Teacher as we continue to roll out the second year of the programme in the Torry community.

Based on the internationally celebrated Venezuelan El Sistema programme, our vision is to transform lives with music.   We deliver our work through the creation of Big Noise programmes within communities, and we currently run three programmes in Raploch in Stirling, Govanhill in Glasgow and Torry in Aberdeen. You will work with children from pre-school and primary school, adults and eventually children from secondary school. Being creative in designing and introducing new ways of learning you will use the orchestra to grow children’s confidence, respect, aspiration, drive and understanding. As part of the team you will develop innovative ways to engage children and families, including home visits and community performances.

The following must be demonstrable both on your application form and during the selection process:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Experience of working with large and varied groups of children
  • A track record of success and ability to give music instruction to children on your specialist instrument, appropriate for individual, group and large ensemble settings
  • Ability to motivate all learners, regardless of ability, individually and as part of a team
  • Professional standard of playing on your instrument

We are looking for two to three musicians with string teaching experience (either lower strings – ‘cello and double bass, or upper strings – violin and viola) and one musician with musicianship teaching experience. Each musician will work 2, 3 or 4 days a week during term time and 5 days a week during school holidays, although we will also consider applications for musicians who can only work after school hours.
