Slow Theatre Company St Walstan’s Creative Festival

December 9, 2015 in All Opportunities, Composers by mwhiteside

Are you interested in becoming our composer for a new innovative project within the community of Bowthorpe, Norwich?

We want to bring new writers, artists, composers and others together with professional mentors and members of the local community to develop a multi-arts performance during September 2016, to take place in the ruins of the St Michael and All Angels church in Bowthorpe.

We will be using elements from the story of Norfolk’s patron saint of agriculture and farming, St Walstan, to create an experience for a modern audience at the millennial anniversary of the year of his death.

This is a story of land ownership, poverty and solidarity, with a deep connection to the land. In this rural county we believe the story of St Walstan’s life and death will find a resonance with people living in an increasingly unequal society. We would love to have you on board!

We cannot pay artist fees; however, this is a unique opportunity to write a piece celebrating a millennium event and see it performed, to be mentored by an industry expert, and to work collaboratively with other artists and the local community.

To be considered, you must submit a piece of composition of up to 4 minutes by January 15th, 2016. The five shortlisted composers will then take part in two mentoring workshops led by our professional mentor during February and March 2016. At the end of these one composer will be selected to go on to develop their work in collaboration with members of the community and other artists, before submitting the final piece by April 30th 2016. Your composition will be part of a multi-arts performance performed by nonprofessional and professional actors and musicians. However, it is important the work also stands alone as a new piece of music for future generations. Please submit your work and fill out the form online at www.slowtheatrecompany.co.uk
