Would you like to gain experience of how a professional arts organisation runs? Would you like to know more about what goes on behind the scenes, to keep it legal, financially viable and thriving? Would you like to add your voice to our plans, decision-making and blue-sky thinking?

If you’re between the ages of 18 and 26, with a passion for contemporary chamber music, ambitious, curious and keen to challenge and be challenged, then this could be an opportunity for you. We will support you every step of the way, by offering you mentoring from our Chief Executive, and access to our current Board members for advice and support as your own career evolves. You would join our Board for a period of two years, attend meetings 4 times per year in Edinburgh and we’d cover your expenses, as we do with all of our Board members. We will call upon your advice and experience, your opinions and suggestions between meetings, and if you see a need for a sub-committee, you could lead discussions and have a real impact on what we do.

You would be an integral part of our management team, which is currently our Board of Directors, Artistic Director, Chief Executive, General Manager and Digital Producer. The Board of Directors is legally responsible for the running of Hebrides Ensemble. We would discuss your responsibilities with you to make sure you’re comfortable with the details, but we see this as a safe and secure environment in which you can learn all about how a company functions.

Hebrides Ensemble has established itself as one of the foremost chamber music collectives in the UK. Co-founded and led by its Artistic Director, the cellist and conductor William Conway, the Ensemble is renowned for its fresh and intelligent approach to programming, which places contemporary music at the heart of a diverse range of repertoire. In addition to a busy performing, recording, touring and broadcasting schedule, Hebrides Academy provides a wide range of training opportunities and events.

We have a great team of highly respected leaders. If you’d like to come and join us, please apply in writing to, detailing why you’d benefit from the experience, what you’d like to gain from it and what you have to offer Hebrides Ensemble.
