XXXVII International Forum of New Music Manuel Enriquez MEXICO CITY 2015

The National Coordination of Music and Opera of the National Institute of Fine Arts invites composers and performers to propose works to be performed within the XXXVII International Forum of New Music “Manuel Enríquez” (FIMNME), which will be held from May 22 to June 7, 2015 in Mexico City.

This annual encounter is regarded of embracing all compositional tendencies, and of being a representative forum of the current panorama of music composition in Mexico and the rest of the world. The selection of proposals will take into account music quality and viability. There is no restriction of age or nationality

Basis for participation

• Each postulant, either composer or interpreter(s), may submit up to two works, on the understanding that only one work per composer may be selected.

FIMNME will give priority to the following instrumental settings:

• String Quartet, with or without soloist.
• Woodwind Quintet (wood and brass instruments) with or without soloist.
• String Orchestra with or without soloist.
• Symphony Orchestra with or without soloist.
• Ensembles from 7 and up to 15 musicians from the following setting (without soloist): flute, bassoon, 2 clarinets, 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass, 2 percussionists and piano.
• Recorded electronic means and live electronics with or without acoustic instruments (as described above) with or without voice.

• Each performer, either soloist or ensemble, may propose a full program which may be selected entirely or just part of it. Up to one work per composer can be chosen. The works proposed by living Mexican composers or foreigners living in México must have a written permit by the composer (either original or electronic),

• Priority will be given to works not performed in past editions of the FIMNME.

• Works by composers involved in the organization of FIMNME and the Selection Committee cannot be selected.

• The Selection Committee shall consist of three renowned musicians, and it will be responsible of the selection of the works to be performed.

• It is right of the Selection Committee in conjunction with the National Coordination of Music and Opera to appoint interpreters for the performance of the pieces.

• In addition to the score and parts, is the responsibility of the applicants (composers and performers) whose work is chosen, to provide without any cost to the FIMNME, the additional material required for performing the work. It is also his responsibility of the composer to cover his own expenses in order to attend the concert, as transportation, food and lodging costs. Attendance of the composer is recommended but not mandatory.

• The Selection Committee together with the National Coordination of Music and Opera may extend invitations to prominent national and foreign composers, so one of his/her works is performed in the FIMNME.

• Participants in this forum accept all previous statements and approve the use of their materials for archive, transmission, distribution and promotion by different media.

• The official version of this Call for Scores is Spanish.

• Any situation, not stated in this Call for Scores, will be solved by the Selection Committee and the Coordination of Music and Opera. The upcoming decision will be considered final and there will be no right of appeal.


All documents must be submitted in printed format (only 1) and digital format (3 DVD/CD’s) with the following:

• Curriculum vitae containing place, date of birth and artistic background. Maximum length of half page (825 characters, double-spaced line format), in Word format.

• Note about the composition. Maximum length of half a page (825 characters, double-spaced line format), in Word format.

• Score. It is important to state the exact duration of the work to ensure proper programming. Digital version in PDF format.

• Parts of the works proposed by the composers (There is no need that performers send parts.) Digital version in PDF format

• Color or black and white photo of the composer, in high resolution with a minimum of 300 dpi. (JPG, PDF, or TIFF formats)

• Registration form filled (in capitals and small letters), using the proper characters of the language in which is submitted.

• It is strongly recommended but not mandatory to send a recording of the work or a good quality MIDI realization of it. Either of this should be in MP3 format (Do not send MIDI files).

Digital material

• Regarding works including either preset electronic media or live electronics, it is compulsory to provide the relative technical rider and, without any cost to the FIMNME, interfaces, software and all kinds of special devices required for performance. The contents must be submitted on audio CD at a resolution of 16 bits – 44.1 kHz. The works composed for more than two channels and/or higher resolution should be sent as digital files on a data DVD and additionally on an audio mixed CD copy so the Selection Committee can pursue its evaluation. In such cases, the reproduction will be made by a computer, which must be provided by the composer, except the cases of those composers living outside Mexico.

• Under no circumstances incomplete applications will be accepted. It is the responsibility of each applicant to complete in time all requirements stated in this call, otherwise proposals will not be considered.

General Information

Proposals will be received from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 hours, except in non working days, at the address listed below. Deadline is Thursday, December 11 2014. If application is sent by courier it must be marked under the concept of “no commercial value”, showing a registration date of December 8, 2014 or before.

Deadline to deliver parts of selected works (symphony and chamber orchestra) is Friday, March 20, 2015. Materials must be received in the indicated dates, otherwise the performance of these works may be cancelled.

Note: Non-selected applications may be recovered from Monday to Friday, in March 2015, from 10:00 to 14:00 at the same address of delivery, works not claimed will be destroyed:
