October 1, 2016 in All Opportunities, Composers, Performers by mwhiteside

Deadline: Tue 15 Nov 2016 – 06:00

The Yvar Mikhashoff Trust for New Music is pleased to announce the guidelines for the tenth annual international competition for pianist/composer collaborations. The goal of the competition is to encourage the composition and performance of new works for solo piano reflecting and continuing the legacy of the distinguished American pianist, Yvar Mikhashoff (1941-1993). The winning composer and pianist, who apply together as a team, will receive $3,000 (USD) each. The composer will write a new piece for piano solo, with or without electronics; this work will then be premiered by the pianist between January and September 2018. The competition is limited to applicants, both pianists and composers, born on or after January 1, 1982.

Who may apply

A team comprised of a pianist and composer apply jointly.

Both members of the team must have been born on or after January 1, 1982.
Pianists who are composers may not apply to commission themselves.
Pianists may not apply to commission a work that is already in-progress or has been publicly presented either in part or whole.
Both pianists and composers may appear on only one application per cycle.
Previous awardees of the Yvar Mikhashoff Trust who meet the above qualifications are eligible to apply.
Previous first-prize winners of the Commissioning Project are ineligible to apply.
