Mimi Doulton (soprano): No Man is an Island (soundfestival 2026)

Dates
Description

This project brings together artists from different corners of the European continent to reflect on the turbulent decade since the UK referendum to leave the EU, and to explore ideas around nationalism, migration, conflict, unity, and the question of a common European identity.

Featuring three specially commissioned works by Irish composer Linda Buckley, Estonian composer Krõõt-Kärt Kaev and British composer Elaine Mitchener, for solo voice with electronics and / or handheld instruments, all written for the soprano Mimi Doulton.

A short documentary by Mladen Ivanović interviewing residents and expatriates of the Balkan nations about these themes will also be played as part of the performance.

Duration

  • Linda Buckley: Set Thy House in Order (14 mins)
  • Krõõt-Kärt Kaev: tears apart (18 mins)
  • Mladen Ivanović: The Fragile Art of Living Together (10 mins)- documentary
  • Elaine Mitchener: Abode (20 mins)
