Composing for media can mean a lot of different things, from writing for film and television to radio, podcasts, advertising and games. Each comes with its own creative and practical considerations, from how you respond to a brief and work with collaborators, to the way music is used to support a story, image or product.

In this Peer to Peer session, composer David Simpson will give a short introduction to his own work and discuss some of the different approaches involved in composing for media. He will cover working with briefs, commissioners, directors and editors, responding to feedback and changes during a project, and some of the ways composers find work and develop relationships with potential collaborators.

The second part of the session will be an open discussion, with time for questions and participants to share their own experiences and approaches.

The session is aimed at NMS members who are interested in working in media, whether you are considering it for the first time or looking to develop this part of your existing practice.
