Riot Ensemble - 2022 Call for Scores
Deadline: 27 Dec 2021
Through this call, two composers will be commissioned to write new pieces for Riot Ensemble.
The first composer will write a 5-8’ quartet for flute, clarinet, violin, and cello (with or without electronics) to be premiered at Tzlil Meudcan in July 2022. The commission fee for this work will be £750.
The second composer will write a 10-15’ ensemble work for our October 2022 concert at Kings Place (our first concert this year takes place on 21st January 2022). The composer will select a lineup of up to twelve musicians (with or without electronics) drawn from David Del Tredici’s Syzygy. The commission fee for this work will be £1500 - with an additional fund of up to £500 available to offset travel costs - and the premiere will take place in London on 14 October 2022.
Eligibility
Any composer not currently represented on our 2022 Season is eligible to apply.
What to Submit
Using the form below, please submit:
Your name, country of residence, e-mail address, and (optionally) your pronouns.
PDF files of two scores. These pieces may be for any instrumentation and written at any point in your life/career. We simply want to hear your best work!
Links to recordings of these pieces if possible.
We get some questions about this so to clarify: recordings are not mandatory. Of course, they are helpful, but our musicians are fluent score readers and we have commissioned composers in the past who have not submitted a recording.
Deadline
All entries must be received by 11:59 GMT on Monday 27th December.
Process
Every entry into our Call for Scores is reviewed independently by three members of our Artistic Board. The conglomeration of these reviews is used to draw up a shortlist. This shortlist is then reviewed by all members of the Artistic Board. At the final stage, we all get together and choose the two composers together via a democratic (and often fairly intense!) discussion.
This year, we will announce the commissions on 31st January 2022.
Entry Fee
As you may know, we normally charge a small fee to apply to this call. This year, due to the worldwide pandemic which continues to keep so many musicians completely out of work, we have decided against charging any entry fee for this call.
We are looking forward to hearing your work!
