Description

soundfestival returns to venues across Aberdeen this October with an adventurous programme of new music.

The festival features an array of new commissions from UK composers including James MacMillan, Laura Bowler and Ian Wilson, and Franco-Lebanese composer Zad Moultaka who is writing for the combined forces of France’s Percussions Claviers de Lyon and Scotland’s Red Note Ensemble.

Our programme also features the return of Breton piper, Erwan Keravec whose pipes quartet, SONNEURS, make its UK debut.

Last year we celebrated our final endangered instrument, the double bass, but we felt more of a celebration was needed of the five amazing instruments we have featured since 2017. We are thrilled to welcome back former festival artists-in-residence Garth Knox (viola), Nicholas Daniel (oboe) and Ben Goldschieder (horn) who will come together with Emily Hultmark (bassoon) and Elise Dabrowski (double bass) to form the first ever 'Endangered Instrument Ensemble', as well as to celebrate their instruments in solo and duo concerts.

We will also introduce audiences to new music through more informal events including our popular promenade concert at Aberdeen Maritime Museum, a children's concert with musicians from Nevis Ensemble, spotlight gigs, late night events, exciting collaborations with DanceLive and Jazz at the Blue Lamp and workshops.
